Why You Need A Side Hustle

hustlers-dont-sleep

Lets face it, if you are like most of us over forty people, you are stuck in a unfulfilling job, dragging your stressed out ass through the tired 9-5 grind of life only to come home depressed and unsatisfied.

You are filled with woulda-shoulda-couldas.  I’m stuck in the 9-5 hustle right now.  But my side hustle has lit a fire inside me.  The pain of the day job is now surpassed by the joy I have n building my empire.  I don’t do network marketing,  or mlm, I work in sales.

There is no shortage of jobs in the sales world that pay very well.  However, you need to work.  It is a side hustle after all.  A side hustle can be a blog or YouTube channel that you wish to monetize, perhaps you produce amazing cole slaw and want to produce the best-selling slaw in America.

Whatever the desire, you need a side hustle.  Especially if your 9-5 doesn’t have you were you want to begin life, and for most of us, it’s the desire to plan your day as you see fit.  To be able to work a business on your terms, not on the terms of corporate America.  In may opinion humans were not meant for cubes in buildings with artificial light for 8 hours a day.  It’s why we are the number one society with depression issues and illness.  It’s not a gratifying existence.

A side hustle will not only help you build a financial future, it will help you create immense disciplines that will make you a better person over-all.  We cannot count on the company to take care of us, the government will most likely bankrupt social security.  It is up to us to make sure we aren’t working our asses off at Home Depot at 68 years old when we should be doing the things we want with the people we love.

A side hustle keeps your mind active.  I’ve witnessed first hand what lethargy and complacency can do to people.  I watched my father give up on life. It’s a sad experience to witness.  Don’t let it happen to you.

A side hustle will help you meet new people.  If you are serious about success you will need the help of others.  One of the great things about building a side hustle is the people you will meet along the way.

A side hustle can hep you fight off depression.  Many people I talk to re seriously depressed about their work situation.  They wake up every morning, physically sick with the prospect of facing yet another day on the job.  he side business that you are building can help you shift focus from something that pains you, to growing a business that excites you.

Finally, a side hustle will help you become a better person.  To build an empire you have to become an empire builder, the mindset that has you were you are in life, has to change, and you will change, for the better.

Great reasons why you need a side hustle.  Find something you can be passionate about and create a business.  You can do it.

2 Simple Things to Make Life Better

Lately I have had to really focus on making my mind less hectic.  I have a doctorate in procrastination and found I need to write things down in order to get some things done.  I have also discovered that I still put off doing things on my list sometimes.  Well, a lot of the time.

A to do list is a great tool to get you started, but I found that scheduling things in my calendar was a huge step in getting more important things done.  Your phone comes equipped with a calendar, use it.  Once I started scheduling my time at the gym, time to work on my business, my meditation practice and other important matters in life, I became much more efficient with my time.  Time is the one commodity we can not acquire more.  Be stingy with your time.  Everything I do is scheduled on a calendar. This is a tough habit to stick with, but when you commit 30 days to the process, you will be surprised about how much more efficient you become.

Meditation is the second practice I have started that was so difficult in the beginning, but is an important part of my daily routine. How do you start meditating?  Youtube has great beginner videos that will walk you through, 10, 15 or 30 minute sessions.   Just push play and follow the instructions.  I highly recommend starting off in the 5-10 minute range.  Spotify is another great resource for meditation.  Just start.  set aside 10 minutes a day where you won’t be disturbed.  Meditation benefits include reduced stress, improved concentration, information processing, fosters creativity an a host of other amazing things.

With great change comes great patience.  Try these practices in your life for the next 30 days and I guarantee you will see dramatic improvements in you life.  So many people I talk to live unfulfilled lives.  They are over 40, and feel like the American dream is really not a dream at all.  We are at a point were we realize this ride is at best half way over.  Perspectives and things change dramatically as life chugs along.  Thank you for joining me as I document my journey to build a newline after 40.

Life After 40

On October 1 2017 I turned 42.

It has been nearly 2 years since I last published post on this blog.  Life has changed dramatically for me over the last few years.  Huge career shifts, the death of my parents six months apart from each other, and a spiritual/mind awakening occurred.

I fell out of love with the world of fitness and the business of fitness about 2 years ago. The grind of marketing and the business end of training people for fitness became more of a drag than exciting.  My physical and mental fitness suffered.  I learned a lot about business partnerships.  The hard way.

However, life changes quickly, and without warning.  In December of 2016 I lost my mother to cancer.  Six months later my father passed. He had suffered for 10 years with Alzheimers disease.

After failing in the fitness business, losing my parents and having to start over again in my forties I came to a lot of realizations.

Life isn’t what its cracked up to be.  The pressure of society to conform is overwhelming, and looking back on life, I wish I did so much differently.  This seems to be the opinion of a lot of people my age.  We were let down by a society that says go to college, buy a house get into debt, buy crap, live the American dream.

thats not my dream, not anymore.

After my parents passed I realized that of all the stuff in the family home, the only thing of real value to me was the pictures, 8mm films and my fathers high school football jersey.

Life after 40 is my account of rebuilding my life after 40, I have a new career as a consultant with a merchant services company.

My goals are to travel more, be in the ultimate physical and mental shape of my life,  but also build a rewarding career that allows me to live the next 40 years of life on my terms, collecting memories, not junk.

I’ve become passionate about Alzheimers awareness and I will be spending the rest of my days helping as much as possible the Alzheimers Association find a cure to this terrible disease.

I look at life in an entirely different way now.

Thanks for reading about my new outlook on life, and please subscribe to my newsletter to keep up with all the great things discover on this new adventure.
