I’ve been depressed for a while now. Many years in fact. I’m pretty sure it has to do with all the bad decisions I made in life. (Thats a whole load of other posts.) Additionally, two years ago my parents died suddenly within six months of each other. Being an only child when your parents die sucks too. It sucks all the balls.

But, if it were not for these terrible choices and unfortunate deaths I wouldn’t be here, writing to you.

I never thought I was “depressed” thats something that happens to other people. However, after some time reflecting on my person and talking to loved ones, it was pretty clear I was depressed. I spent a lot of time in bed, and felt guilty when I did. Like I should have been doing something more productive. When I am not in bed, all want to do is take a nap. Either way I was not able to be productive in any way shape or form.

I felt lost, there was no direction in my life. No physical obstacles, no mental ones either. I was drifting through life in a rut. You need a challenge in life, mental and physical. Positive challenges to help you become a better person.

I needed to do something. One thing I began to study was medical cannabis and depression. Can weed really help you over come depression. Yes. And no. I thoroughly believe cannabis can help you with depression, but it needs to be a tool in your arsenal to help you over come this disease.

The first thing I did was research strains for depression. The website Leafly, is an amazing resource to find strains for depression. The second thing I did was research cannabis terpenes. This lead me to find that limonene is an essential terpene found in some cannabis strains to help fight depression.

The next thing, find strains high in this terpene, then see if my local dispensary carries these strains. Whew. It was some work but well worth it. I found an experimented with some strains and found the following strains to be the best for me.

Durban Poison. My number one go to strain. This flower kept me uplifted, euphoric and energized. I get super productive with this strain and its perfect for daytime use.

Super Silver Haze This little darling is great for a nice head buzz. Another strain for great euphoria and being ultra productive,

Golden Goat. The goat is great for high energy and motivation.

Grapefruit Durban. I use this in a c02 cart and love it. My absolute favorite for all day use.

Those are my go to strains right now, obviously I love to experiment with different strains and see what works best. I tend to lean towards anything citrusy and skunks. Lemon strains seem to be another hit for getting that edge over depression and anxiety so many people need. If you have depression, and access to medical cannabis, try these strains. The use of cannabis as part of peoples pre workout routine is becoming more and more commonplace today as states increasingly open medical marijuana laws and full legalization is becoming more widespread throughout the country.

The ability to use cannabis as a pre workout maybe be mind blowing to some people.  But to those of us on the mmj program here in PA, its been a welcome addition to my daily fitness routine.  Through trial and error I have found these flower strains to be the best as a great preworkout pick me up.  No, I don’t get mind numbingly blasted, but a few hits about 30 mins before a workout is a must try experience.  When done with a good sativa, you too can enhance your workout.  So here are my top five strains for your pre workout session.

5. Moonshine Haze

This strain had me uplifted in my entire body.  Perfect for a session of straight weight lifting.

4. Great White Shark

This instant classic is perfect for all day use and translate well to the gym for any and al activities.

 

3. Jack Herer

This mellow sativa will keep you chill and in the zone.  Goes great with yoga

2. Super Lemon Haze

This killer strain packs a punch of energy that goes well with your cardio routine.

1. Sour Diesel

This legendary strain is another great flower thats not only perfect for daily use but goes well as a pre workout before hitting the gym.
